Everyone retreated to our house for Vicki’s 60th birthday party.
Hardly a secret, but I gotta say it is camping at Peninsula State Park. Where else can you be on the shore of a beautiful lake for swimming and kayaking, then walk to an outdoor theatre to see a show you will see only in Wisconsin? (If you’re not familiar with American Folklore Theatre, you should be. Go see “Guys on Ice” at the Barrymore this month.) Just outside the park you can see and hear high quality classical music at the Peninsula Music Festival. (You can get there on your bike from your campsite.) Venture a little further and you can see a show by Peninsula Players. My highlight is to hop on my bike early one morning and ride around the county’s back roads, stopping someplace for breakfast before heading back to camp. Where else can you combine camping, original theatre, and classical music, without getting into a car?
